J.K. Dunnick (ed); D.E. Malarkey (ed)
Allyl Bromide (AB) is a colorless to light yellow liquid with an unpleasant pungent odor. It is slightly soluble in water and miscible with alcohol, chloroform, ether, carbon disulfide, or carbon tet. Dangerous fire and explosion hazards occur when AB is exposed to heat, flame, or oxidizers; it also emits toxic bromide fumes when heated to decomposition. AB is used primarily as a starting material/chemical intermediate in organic synthesis and as an intermediate in the manufacture of polymers/resins, synthetic perfumes, pharmaceuticals, ag. chem., and other allyl compounds. It is also an insecticidal fumigant used in crop prot. Genetic toxicology studies were conducted in “Salmonella typhimurium” and mouse peripheral blood erythrocytes. Illus.
