Writing for pub. in the Air Force (AF) is different in many ways from writing for commercial publication or writing for a newspaper or a scholarly journal. The basic tenets of English usage are the same, of course, but audiences are different, and terminology is specialized. This guide prescribes simple rules for the most common problems facing the AF writer. It clarifies and simplifies matters for the writer by removing the most common obstacles to readability in AF writing: overuse of capitalization, of acronyms and other forms of abbrev., and of passive voice. The AF prefers an open-punctuation style, which discourages the overuse of commas, colons, and semicolons and the use of periods in abbrev. Arranged in dictionary style, enhanced by cross-ref.
