AIDS in the Fire Service: A Practical Approach for Setting Fire Department Policy

Addresses the issue of fire dept. employees working and living with AIDS. More than 80% of fire depts. in the U.S. did not have a written fire dept. AIDS policy and the remaining fire depts. had AIDS policies only addressing emergency med. first responders employee procedures. This report was designed to educate and sensitize fire dept. officers about this issue and disease, and provide them with the tools needed to develop a reasonable and prudent AIDS employee policy. This report was derived from interviews and a review of research materials accessed through: professionals working in the AIDS community, public and private employers that had existing employee AIDS policies, and individuals that were either infected or affected by AIDS.
